Energy costs represent a large expense for most wastewater systems. Systems require constant energy, especially for treatment processes and pumping requirements, and energy costs are expected to continue to rise. Energy costs are not typically assessed for possible savings, because the treatment that results in energy costs must continue no matter what. Despite this fact, systems may find savings to combat increasing prices using Energy Management strategies, and the first step to practicing energy management is understanding your energy bills!
In this video we cover energy management basics like how electricity bills are calculated and how to read them for systems. We also discuss potential ways a system can save on energy costs including; confirming your account and billing information are correct and that the system is charged correctly, and utilizing load shifting when possible. Systems can use this video and the Environmental Finance Center Network’s (EFCN) other resources, as well as direct technical assistance from the EFCN to begin their Energy Management journey today!
