WY Training | Strengthening Wyoming Small Systems Through Collaboration and Workforce Planning

Description: Water and wastewater systems across Wyoming are facing workforce challenges that threaten long-term service delivery, including retirements, recruitment difficulties, limited staffing, and increasing operational demands. While these challenges are shared by many systems, the solutions often look different depending on local needs, available resources, and partnerships.
Join us for a half-day interactive workshop focused on practical strategies to recruit, retain, and support the next generation of water professionals. Through a series of presentations, facilitated discussion, and peer learning, participants will explore proven workforce strategies, share lessons learned, and discuss innovative approaches to addressing workforce challenges in small and rural communities.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify key workforce challenges impacting small and rural water and wastewater systems in Wyoming
- Explore practical strategies to strengthen recruitment, retention, succession planning, and employee development
- Discuss collaborative approaches, including workforce sharing and regional partnerships, to address staffing challenges
- Connect with peers and learn about resources available to support long-term workforce development

- Managers, owners, and operators of water systems serving less than 10,000 people, or wastewater systems with an average daily flow of less than 1 million gallons

- Consultants and technical assistance providers serving water and wastewater systems
