Water Research Seminar | Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI): What to expect

Description: Public water systems are currently required to comply with the initial Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) inventory and notification requirements while preparing for full implementation of the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) by November 1, 2027. This water research seminar will provide an overview of the current EPA LCRR and LCRI requirements and discuss the key regulatory changes that public water systems should be aware of as they transition toward full LCRI implementation. The session will highlight important requirements related to lead service line inventories, service line identification and notification, lead and copper monitoring, public communication, and lead service line replacement. Participants will also gain an understanding of what water systems should be doing now to prepare for upcoming LCRI requirements, including reviewing existing inventories, addressing data gaps, planning for compliance, and coordinating implementation efforts. The session will also discuss key considerations and potential challenges water systems may encounter as they work toward meeting the 2027 implementation deadline.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify key LCRR and LCRI compliance deadlines and requirements, including important milestones leading up to the November 1, 2027, LCRI implementation date.
2. Describe the major requirements for public water systems, including lead service line inventories, customer notification, monitoring, reporting, and lead service line replacement planning.
3. Recognize the actions and preparations needed to achieve compliance, including reviewing existing inventories, addressing data gaps, coordinating implementation activities, and developing plans to meet upcoming regulatory deadlines.
