Description: In this course, participants new to the water and wastewater industry will gain exposure to concepts used to keep drinking water safe and wastewater systems protective of the environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will have a basic understanding of terminology, mathematics and factors impacting fluid flow.
  • Participants will have greater knowledge for passing lower-level water and wastewater operator examinations.
  • Participants will learn about the basic regulatory structures for drinking water and wastewater systems.
  • An overview of common safety hazards, and how to approach them in a safe manner, will be provided.

TCHs: This training is approved for 4.5 Wastewater and 5.5 Drinking Water Training Contact Hours.

  • New and aspiring water and wastewater professionals, including recently hired utility employees, public works staff, and individuals exploring careers in the water sector
  • Managers, owners, and operators of wastewater systems with an average daily flow of less than 1 million gallons or water systems serving less than 10,000 people
  • Decision-makers for water and wastewater utilities, including mayors, finance officers, utility managers, public works directors, city councilors, board members, tribal council members, and clerks
  • Consultants and technical assistance providers serving water and wastewater systems
