Description: City Council and rural water district boards have a lot to consider when it comes to their community’s water utility: water pressure, meeting all federal and state regulations and standards, and making rates affordable. In fact, their job is making the right choices about complex managerial, financial, and technical aspects of running a high-quality water utility. Boards/Councils need to know the pros and cons concerning decisions about public water. This three-day, online training will introduce the concepts involved in managing your water utility.

Participants will learn:

• The need for water systems to conduct affairs in a manner that enables the system to achieve and maintain compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act requirements, including institutional and administrative capabilities.
• The importance of a water system’s ability to acquire and manage sufficient financial resources to allow the system to achieve and maintain compliance, and how to make important financial decisions for your utility such as rate-setting and capital improvements.
• The physical and operational components of a water system and the importance of adequate physical infrastructure, technical knowledge and capability of personnel and adequate source water.
