ME Online Training | Nitrogen Removal in Wastewater Treatment
Description: Excess nitrogen in coastal waters threatens aquatic life and recreation. In this training, attendees will learn about nitrogen removal from wastewater. Topics will include ammonia conversion to nitrates and nitrate conversion to nitrogen gas. A focus will be on operational changes that can help to reduce total nitrogen in wastewater discharges at minimal costs, sometimes with significant reductions in electrical and chemical demands from normal operations. Nutrient optimization has the potential to significantly improve water quality at minimal capital and operational costs. Attendees will better understand the wastewater environments necessary to nitrification and denitrification and how optimization may be applied to their plant operations.
Instructor: Nicholas Willis, Senior Program Manager, Environmental Finance Center at Wichita State University
