LA Online Training | Managing Aging Wastewater Infrastructure
The registration link leads to an external website.
Description: Join the EFC Network for this training on aging infrastructure designed for wastewater managers and operators. Aging infrastructure is a common challenge that many systems must address to avoid loss of service, and negative impacts on the environment and public health. The challenge of aging infrastructure is made especially difficult due to the reality that many systems are limited by strict financial circumstances. This training will provide operational, financial, and technological strategies that systems can use to address the challenge of aging infrastructure. The Southwest Environmental Finance Center has extensive experience training and observing the success of asset management (AM), which has resulted in emphasizing AM as a strategy for addressing aging infrastructure and incorporating it into this training.
AM is a framework designed to help systems decide how, when, and where to spend their often-limited funds. The goal of this framework is to provide utilities with the tools to provide the desired level of service for their customers at the lowest cost. This along with the other strategies presented in this training should provide systems with the framework to begin assessing and confronting their aging infrastructure.on principles for activated sludge plants, fixed film treatment processes, and lagoon systems. Operators will gain a greater understanding of how wastewater plants treat municipal wastes and how to perform calculations to evaluate and adjust treatment processes. This class will also be beneficial for operators preparing for a state certification exam.
