Mapping your system’s assets provides tremendous benefits for operations and maintenance, for emergency repairs, and short and long-term capital planning. Mapping can turn information into actionable data and knowledge. A good, comprehensive map allows an operator to know where assets are located in order to save time, plan O&M activities, track break data and pass on information about the system to other operators.

Pipe break data is inexpensive, easy to collect, and powerful especially when combined with an asset map. Together they can be used to track asset condition and drive repair and replacement decisions. Additionally, they can help a utility reduce real water losses thereby saving cost and protecting the resource.

This training will demonstrate that while you might start out mapping your assets just to know where they are, you can realize numerous additional benefits by undertaking these activities.
