Hughes Metropolitan Complex (Room 132); 5015 East 29th St N, Wichita, KS 67220 Description: Activated sludge plants are common throughout the United States for treating municipal wastewaters. As discharge permits change, the need to focus on properly operating and maintaining activated sludge systems does not. This course will help operators new to the wastewater industry gain valuable understanding and tools to help them properly operate plants and efficiently diagnose issues when they arise. Attendees to this course will learn the following:
  • Conversion processes occurring within activated sludge systems
  • Separation processes occurring within activated sludge systems
  • Resources for troubleshooting common conversion and separation problems at activated sludge plants
  • A basic understanding of nutrient removal in activated sludge treatment plants.
Please Note: The training time includes breaks. Lunch will not be provided. Registration is free, but seating is limited! Trainer: Nicholas Willis, Senior Program Manager, Wichita State University Environmental Finance Center CEUs: This training is approved for 5 hours of Wastewater continuing education credits by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  Who Should Attend:
  • Managers, owners, and operators of wastewater systems with an average daily flow of less than 1 million gallons
  • Decision-makers for wastewater utilities, including mayors, finance officers, utility managers, public works directors, city councilors, board members, tribal council members, and clerks
  • Consultants and technical assistance providers serving wastewater systems
