Small water systems in Illinois, and across the country, are struggling to recruit and keep experienced staff. What will happen when your utility’s long-term operator or manager retires? Water is the only public utility that our citizens consume, and this job cannot be taken lightly. Drinking water is the cornerstone to public health, safety and economic development.

This workshop will focus on what skills to look for in potential water operator candidates, succession planning tips, and staff retention strategies. We will discuss links between workforce development, system sustainability, and long-term planning.
