Session 3 focused on asset management, water loss reduction, and framing your message.  Asset management is a tool that small water utilities can use to deal with the complicated aspects of managing and operating a water utility in times of limited financial and water resources.  This tool can help a water utility meet its obligations to provide safe, healthy, reliable water to its customers at the most appropriate cost.  This workshop discussed the five core components of asset management in a multi-media setting and will incorporate hands-on, small group exercises to reinforce the concepts.

This workshop included a discussion and workshop on water loss reduction, particularly how to choose what type of water loss reduction strategies to implement. Participants received a copy of the Water Audit Handbook based on the AWWA/IWA water audit method.  The workshop concluded with a session regarding how to frame your message to your elected officials or governing body as well as your customers.  This portion of the workshop talked about effective communication and will include a small group workshop.
